Ring Bearers

Ring pillows are one of the points of interest and focus during your wedding ceremony.  There is nothing cuter than a little boy who’s been kept clean and dressed in a tidy suit or outfit with the responsibility of bearing the rings that join a couple in marriage.

The basic inexpensive ring pillow is made of a cheap synthetic satin and lace.  With the many Etsy, Wedzu, and custom wedding accessory designers out there, a special ring pillow that is one-of-a-kind is easy to create!   After all, you have spent all the time and effort to coordinate your wedding and make it special, why overlook the ring pillow?
My personal feeling towards ring pillows is that they should not be overly feminine.  After all, we have a boy carrying the rings, and he already has to wear uncomfortable attire and be well behaved for longer than 15 minutes for goodness sakes.  Why give the poor little chap a fluffy pink pillow overflowing with lace?

Linen Plaid

My personal favorite ring pillows are those that coordinate with the ties worn by the wedding party.  Custom bowties or ties cost the same as many store bought versions, and you can choose from endless fabric options that will make yours one-of-a-kind.   Here is a bowtie set for a man and boy with coordinating ring pillow.  This 100% linen plaid is one I found at Mood fabrics in New York City.  I matched the plaids at the seams and added a cloth-covered button and strap for carrying the pillow.  Many expensive store-bought versions do not account for these quality details. Custom items are worth the slight extra effort to order from a designer or through your event coordinator.  After all, your wedding is a once in a lifetime event!

"True Love"

Embroidered ring bearer pillows are very sweet and can be made of linen.  Your choice of ribbon to attach the rings can add a splash of color that is easily coordinated with your other attendants’ clothing and accessories.  Your heritage or style can be reflected in what or how you have the pillow embroidered.  Monograms or Celtic love knots are just a few ways to create a meaningful message on which to carry the wedding bands.

Proud of your state and where you come from in the U.S. or overseas?  Vintage handkerchiefs or fine kitchen linen towels make wonderful material for a ring pillow.   Or have a designer help you create your own version of a ring pillow.

For an elegant pillow, try a luxurious material such as cashmere for a wedding taking place during colder months or a printed velvet.  A masculine tweed gives the ring bearer a fine traditional look to his attire.  Pieces of fabric from a beloved male figure’s clothing can be used to add a sentimental touch to the ceremony.  A note regarding this detail made in the programs can include a loved one who may no longer be around in the day.

For an alternative to human ring bearer, custom dog collar ring pillows are so cute and sure to make your guests laugh and remember the ceremony.

As we are all becoming more aware of conserving materials and preventing waste these days, what to do with a ring pillow after the ceremony?  Well, if you have your ring pillow made, ask to have the small opening used to stuff the pillow closed with Velcro.  This way, you can give the mother of your ring bearer a sachet of lavender, or other nice smelling stuffing, to use it in a drawer later.  This is a very nice and simple token of thanks for her participation in the wedding.  A kind note and pretty packaging along with a nice handled bag for carrying it all home will be greatly appreciated!
